Have you ever heard of the expression, "It's in your blood?" I first knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in fourth grade. I started "saving" ideas from magazines and creating my own box of teacher ideas. I got my inspiration from my grandmother who had the ultimate multi-age classroom: a one room school, twelve grades, and one teacher. Talk about differentiation! I also have several aunts and uncles that were career educators. My daughter is carrying on the tradition having just finished her eighth year as a kindergarten teacher at Elizabeth Lane Elementary. My son is a computer systems analyst and my husband is a General Contractor. I am the only member of my family that is not a native of North Carolina.
I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia (Go Falcons! Go Braves!). My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education degree from Mercer University (Macon, GA), with curriculum concentrations in Social Studies and Language Arts. I also hold middle grades certification as a National Board Certified Teacher, having just completed the renewal process. My teaching career began at Austin Elementary (Dunwoody, Georgia), where I taught for four years before moving to Charlotte. I have taught for 35 years in CMS with the last seventeen years being at Selwyn. My other schools have included Eastover, First Ward, and Pinewood.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your child. I look forward to the experiences that this school year will bring!
